SIMULATED DOLPHIN EXPERIENCES
Recreating the benefits
Swimming with dolphins was voted the number one experience that people most wanted to do in their lifetime, for the BBC 1 programme 50 Things to do before I die. But this popularity presents a serious threat to the welfare of dolphins, as it creates a market for further captures, trade and captive breeding.
It is not possible for all special needs families to swim with wild dolphins. Therefore, we aim to make the therapeutic benefits of swimming with dolphins accessible to as many families as possible by the development of the Dolphin Healing Centre (without the use of live dolphins).
It has been shown that it is possible to capture and recreate the spiritual essence of dolphins that can have beneficial effects on the human mind. The Dolphin Dreamtime does it with music. Stories and pictures about a fictional dolphin created by Dr. Horace Dobbs, named Dilo, have been shown to help children with learning difficulties. Animal Therapy
When funding is available, we will explore other areas of animal therapy, to include therapeutic horse riding and activities using the horse’s movement as a treatment to improve neuromuscular function for the rider. Equine-facilitated psycho-therapy provides an on going therapeutic relationship between horse, rider and therapist.
Riding a horse can help a child physically strengthen his or her muscles while also serving as a recreation to build self esteem.
